2023 Rock Hill DB keeps pipeline alive with football commitment

When I linked Judge Collier’s recruiting profile, he was still listed as 5’8″ and 138lbs, which anyone who saw him at Beamer Football Camp on Sunday June 5th would tell you he’s a bit dated He is new as listed he is 6’1″ 185 lbs tall. The former QB has now moved to DB as well and joins a long line of DBs from the Rock Hill area with his involvement with the Gamecocks, including Rick SanfordKo Simpson Jonathan JosephStephon Gilmore and current analyst DeVonte Holloman, who have chosen to play college ball in Columbia, SC.

As his recruiting profile shows, Collier is a bit of a late bloomer for the Class of 2023. I briefly mentioned him in last week’s recruiting rundown as someone who impressed at camp and received an offer from DB Coach Torrian Grey. He wasn’t really on the radar before that, but when Gray offers a DB, his track record speaks for itself. He appears to have other D1 offers from the Air Force, Navy, and Boston College, but didn’t flash in the film as he must have flashed in camp. However, there are a few things that stand out from his junior film, notably his willingness to flee from safety and his ability to take good pursuit angles while dodging traffic to get to the ball carrier. In terms of coverage, he seems to have good hips, and while he’s not quite as big a build as you’d like, once he’s in a college S&C program his long frame should fill him up nicely. The fact that he’s played QB for a number of years should help him break down offense and understand plans.

Collier joins in Jalon Kilgore, Cam Upshaw Jr and Zahbari Sandy since DB commits in a class that seems to last at least 5 if not more in this cycle. Other targets the Gamecocks are still looking to land are Braylon Johnson and perhaps a longer shot in Sharif Denson as of now.
