With the upcoming 2022 NFL season, storylines began to emerge. From Roger Goodell testifying before Congress to contract issues for Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson. Meanwhile, teams had time to prepare for their opponents. While the schedule gods have been kind to teams like the Giants and Eagles, some NFL schedules are significantly more difficult. From a tough division to a tough conference, some teams haven’t had the luck on their side. With the season almost upon us, it’s time to take a look at which teams have tough NFL schedules for the 2022 season.
The potential for grilling
The first team with a tough NFL schedule has been a frequent contender for the past five years, the Kansas City Chiefs. After falling short in the playoffs last year, the Chiefs watched as superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill forced a trade to Miami.
Meanwhile, all of their AFC West divisional rivals have added top-notch pass-rushing talent. The Chargers paired former Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack with superstar Joey Bosa. The Raiders paired active player with the second-most career sacks, Chandler Jones, with rising star Maxx Crosby. Finally, the Broncos paired former Cowboys star Randy Gregory with the talented Bradley Chubb.
Of even more concern for Kansas City, Denver also added Hall of Famer prospect Russell Wilson. Add in tough matchups with 2021 playoff teams including the Bills, the Niners, the Chargers and both Super Bowl teams (Bengals and Rams) and the Chiefs are left with just a tough NFL schedule. Despite the odds, they are still a popular choice for most betting sites like the Coral betting app.
Super Bowl Blues
One of the hardest things in sport is repeating yourself as a champion. From talented players leaving to lower draft picks, the defending champions always have a tough road back to the Super Bowl. Another tough challenge, tough schedule awaiting the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams are playing in a difficult league with two of their rivals, the Cardinals and the 49ers, after making the playoffs last season. Add in a tough matchup against the Bills to start the season, games against the aforementioned AFC West, Dallas, Tampa and Green Bay make for another tough NFL schedule.
Dark Days in Gotham
The last team with a very tough NFL schedule for the 2022 season led the league in the first round last year, the New York Jets. The Jets have the pleasure of starting the season with 4 straight games against the AFC North, a division where all teams have made the playoffs for the last 2 years.
Add division games against a difficult AFC East where every other team won at least 9 games a year ago. Games against a challenging NFC North and Denver finally leave Zach Wilson and the Jets with our final tough NFL schedule for the 2022 season.
The Jets have an easy end, however, as the Jaguars, Seahawks, Bears and Lions are all on the roster for the second half of the season.
