Following a six-week summer break in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series schedule, Flowdynamics drivers Matt McCarthy and Logan Williams will be back in action this Saturday evening, August 6thth, at Santa Maria Raceway. The race is the first for the talented duo at the 58-year Speed factory since July 3approx2021
The schedule break was originally scheduled for six weeks from July 9th until 20.8th. However, races are scheduled for July 8 at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford and Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulareth and 9th were canceled due to the heat, fuel costs and tire shortages. Luckily for teams and fans, a race in Santa Maria has been added to the schedule. It will be the first action at the track since its early closure a year ago due to non-racing issues.
The last time USAC/CRA performed on the 1/3 mile oval with a wall 13 months ago, Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, Calif., finished 8th in the 30-lap main event. His teammate McCarthy, who makes his home in Riverside, Calif., was one spot behind his young teammate in ninth place.
Saturday will be race #13 for the series and both Flowdynamics drivers in 2022. Williams goes fifth in USAC/CRA points, just 26 points adrift of fourth. McCarthy is currently 10th and is only 16 points from ninth. In her last appearance on 25th At Perris Auto Speedway both drivers had top 10 finishes. Williams finished fifth in the 30-lap main event and McCarthy finished eighth. That was Williams’ second-best result so far in 2022, surpassed only by a fourth-place finish at Bakersfield Speedway on May 14th. It was also McCarthy’s second-best finish of the current season, beaten only by a seventh-place finish on March 26 at Perristh.
For fans who want to watch the Flowdynamics duo race in person on Saturday, adult tickets start at $17.00. For military, seniors (65+) and students with ID, tickets start at $15.00. For children ages 6-12, tickets start at $6.00. Children up to 5 years are free. Gates open at 4pm with races at 6pm. Santa Maria Raceway is located at 1900 Hutton Road, Nipomo (93444).
After the gala reopened in Santa Maria on Saturday, Williams and McCarthy will be back when the series returns to its home track in Perris on August 20th. This race will be the annual California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night and there will be an expanded prize pool with thousands of dollars in additional rewards distributed in qualifying throughout the show, a highly prized trophy dash and money for Main Event laps . It is one of the most popular events on the USAC/CRA schedule each year.
