Following Sorcerer Supreme, Thor becomes the first hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to receive a fourth standalone film in a pivotal year for the MCU. The franchise has Taika Waititi to thank for its longevity after directing Thor: Ragnarokthe culmination of what was once known as the Thor trilogy, as well as one of the best MCU films to date.

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor played a key role in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with a bow that led him to pass his Asgardian crown to Valkyrie and ride aboard their starship with the Guardians of the Galaxy. So the Guardians will join them love and thunder Party. The most significant casting addition is Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, a dangerous and determined villain with a unique backstory. Bale as Gorr has the potential to be one of the great MCU antagonists.

The most surprising cast member, however, is the actress who starred opposite Hemsworth in the first two Thor films, Natalie Portman. After seemingly abandoning the franchise, Portman came back for a cameo appearance endgame. And now Marvel seems to have lured them with promises of godlike powers. In the comics, Jane wields Mjolnir after Thor becomes unworthy to possess the hammer and has a successful comic book run as Mighty Thor. Could love and thunder mark the end of Thor as we know him and pave the way for Portman’s Jane as the new face of the ongoing series?
