The top five teams from the previous Asia Cup (India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea), the hosts (Indonesia) and the two finalists of the AHF Cup 2022 (Bangladesh and Oman) qualified for the Asia Cup Hockey 2022 tournament.
As for the Asia Cup Hockey 2022 pools, defending champions India have been drawn into Pool A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Japan and hosts Indonesia, while Pool B includes record winners South Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Oman.
India, led by Birendra Lakra, will open their campaign against Pakistan on the opening day of the tournament and take on Japan and Indonesia in the next two group games.
India has won the Asian Cup hockey title three times and will be looking to level with record title holders South Korea, who have lifted the trophy four times to date.

Asian Cup Men’s Ice Hockey 2022 format
Eight teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. Then the four teams in each pool play each other once, with the top two teams of each pool advancing to the second round while the third- and fourth-placed teams enter the 5th through 8th grades.
In the second round, the four teams play each other once, with the top two teams then playing the final and the remaining two playing the third-place play-off as there is a World Cup spot up for grabs. The top three teams will qualify for the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 in India.
Meanwhile, places 5 through 8 will be two cross-over semi-finals between 3rd from Pool A vs. 4th from Pool B and 3rd from Pool B vs. 4th from Pool A. Then the winners of the game play the decider for 5th and 6th place. The losers of the semi-finals play the deciders for 7th and 8th place.
