The next saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been announced, with the next two taking the multiverse saga to bed avenger movies. one of these Avengers: Secret Wars, has long been suspected by fans, although at the time it was just a pipe dream. It has now been found to be beyond the realm of fantasy, but perhaps it still should be.
Avengers: Secret Wars should logically be something with an even larger scope than Avengers: Endgame, And that’s exactly the problem. Without all the setup and work of this film, this new finale avenger The film feels more like a cheap cash heist than the next logical step for the MCU. Here’s why Secret Wars is coming to the big screen far too soon.
The fourth phase of the MCU ends before it begins
The somewhat controversial Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels like it’s only just begun, and in fact, it has. From 2021 with the film Black widow and TV show WandaVisionthe phase is scheduled to conclude later this year with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That’s only two years of content, and while it felt crowded for many with its bevy of lackluster installments, it had to be a lot longer. As for audiences, the MCU is just recovering from the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, a film that made a huge impact. Some fans’ explanation that the universe is currently in a rebuild/reboot phase is somewhat accurate, but it would be a lot easier to swallow if Marvel Studios itself saw things that way.
Phase Four wanted to be the longest phase in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, and that’s not because there are tons of new shows and movies to come. It had to take as long as phases four and five combined to truly embody the post-Blip status quo and establish a new direction and overarching villain for the future. While one could argue that Phase One had to do many of the same things, it didn’t say goodbye to several fan-favorite characters and concepts straight ahead. So Phase Four feels like it’s going to end way too abruptly without any kind of connective tissue. That only makes the rushed pace to phases five and six even more questionable.
There is no setup for secret wars outside of hackneyed multiverse stories
Secret Wars is currently the planned sixth avenger Marvel Studios film, but it will have far less TLC compared to the developments that led to the previous films. Phase three ended with Avengers: Endgame (With Spider-Man: Far From Home act as a kind of addendum), put an end to more than ten years of film and continue storylines that began in films as narrative iron man and the first avenger Movie. Secret Wars, but won’t even have half of it as the release of phases four through six lasts from 2021 to 2025. It’s borderline microscopic compared to the 2008-2019 release span of phases one through three. Of course, Marvel Studios might think they can save time by doing Disney+ shows that audiences are becoming increasingly disinterested in, but it won’t.
It definitely feels that way with the direction of phases four through six and especially the plan for it Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret WarsMarvel Studios is simply trying to curtail the massive success of both Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Through huge crossovers and nostalgia bait, the audience should stream to the “last”. avenger Film that will be as cultural a moment as the third and fourth were. However, as mentioned earlier, not even half the work necessary to ensure this has been done. Phase Four doesn’t even end with a crossover like the first, somewhat experimental phase. There’s nothing that unifies the many different characters and concepts of the current phase, which further reinforces the feeling of ending too soon.
Although hardcore fans might already be incredibly excited for the next two avenger Movies, others may feel like it’s already set up to just sizzle and not be a steak. That’s definitely not what Marvel Studios wants if the company intends the MCU to keep chugging along, but audiences can usually smell desperation and a cash grab. Considering how little preparatory work went into laying out the themed red carpet for the film, Avengers: Secret Wars can be just that.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty hits theaters on May 2, 2025. Avengers: Secret Wars hits theaters on November 7, 2025
