BIG EAST publishes 2022-23 Olympic Sports Championships and Fall TV schedule

NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced the dates and locations of the Olympic Sports Championships for the 2022-23 academic year, including expanded fields for the volleyball and softball tournaments. Additionally, The BIG EAST has announced that broadcast partner FOX will be showing four regular season events on FS1 this fall in addition to its regular championship coverage. All 22 BIG EAST championships, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, are presented by JEEP.

Beginning in early September, FS1 will broadcast an in-conference rivalry volleyball game. On Wednesday, September 7th, the defending BIG EAST champion, Creighton, Nebraska, hosts Omaha at 6:00 p.m. ET at CHI Health Center in what is expected to be a top 25 showdown.

FS1 will resume regular season coverage with a men’s soccer competition between Georgetown and St. John’s at Belson Stadium in Queens, NY on Friday, September 16 at 8:30 p.m

Two BIG EAST women’s soccer matches are also scheduled to be broadcast on FS1 to wrap up the month of September. A rematch of the 2021 BIG EAST title game will take place on Thursday, September 22 at 7pm GMT, pitting St. John’s against Georgetown at the Maryland SoccerPlex. A week later, Providence will welcome Butler to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on September 29 at 7 p.m

Post-season coverage begins on FS1 with a championship doubleheader on Sunday 6th November, with the women’s soccer title game scheduled for 1:30pm before the field hockey championship at 4pm. It will be the first time the BIG EAST field hockey championship game will be nationally televised.

The format of the BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship will have the No. 3 host the No. 6 and the No. 4 host the No. 5 in the first round on Sunday, October 30. The venue for the semifinals and league game will be announced at a later date. The semi-finals will take place on Thursday 3 November.
For the first time since 2015, Old Dominion will host both rounds of the field hockey championship at the LRHill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Virginia, with the semifinals scheduled for Friday, November 4th.

The format of the men’s BIG EAST soccer championship is the same as the women’s, with the Nos. 3 and 4 serving as hosts for the first round, with the semifinals and final venue still to be determined. Round one action begins on Saturday, November 5th, before the semi-finals on Thursday, November 10th. FOX Sports will broadcast the championship game on Sunday, November 13; Network and start time will be announced at a later date.
The first round and semi-finals of both the men’s and women’s soccer championships and the semi-finals of the field hockey championship will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi on FloSports (BEDN). Including all men’s and women’s football conference competitions, approximately 350 BIG EAST events will be streamed on FloSports this fall, with nearly 600 events for the year.

The volleyball championship returns with a new format at DJ Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. hosted by Creighton. For the first time since the realignment, the championship will expand from four teams to six, with the top two seeded teams receiving a first-round bye. Round 1 action begins Wednesday, November 23, with the #3 and #6 going head-to-head while the #4 takes on the #5. The winning couple will advance to the semi-finals on Friday 25th November and the first four matches will be broadcast live on BEDN. The championship match will then be broadcast on FS2 on Saturday 26th November. A start time will be announced at a later date.

The Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Providence at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. on Saturday, October 29th. The men’s and women’s races will be streamed on BEDN.

For the winter, the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships return to the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY. The championships will take place from Wednesday 22nd February to Saturday 25th February. The Indoor Track and Field Championships will be hosted by DePaul for the second consecutive year at the Gately Indoor Track & Field Complex in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th. Both championships will be broadcast on BEDN.

The spring championships begin with the men’s and women’s tennis championships beginning Thursday, April 20 and ending Sunday, April 23 in Cayce, SC at the Cayce Tennis Center. It will be the seventh year in a row on Cayce. The women’s golf championship will be held concurrently from Friday, April 21st to April 23rd. The men’s golf championship follows from Friday April 28th to Sunday April 30th. A location will be announced at a later date.

The Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be hosted by Marquette at Valley Fields on Thursday May 4th and Saturday May 6th. Although the women’s championship was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it will be the first time the men’s tournament has been hosted by the Golden Eagle. Connecticut will host the Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Friday, May 5th and Sunday, May 7th at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

The outdoor track and field championships are returning to Villanova, Pennsylvania for the first time since 2017. Villanova will host the conference, which will take place on Friday 12th May and Saturday 13th May at Villanova Stadium. It’s the 24th time the Wildcats have hosted both the men’s and women’s championships at the same time. Villanova also hosted the men’s championship in 1981 and 1982.

For the second time in three years, the softball championship returns to Burrill Family Field in Storrs, Connecticut from Wednesday, May 10th through Saturday, May 13th. Beginning with the 2023 BIG EAST Championship, the field will expand from four to six teams.

Baseball returns to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio for a fifth year, co-hosted by Xavier over Memorial Day weekend, Thursday, May 25th through Sunday, May 28th.

The spring program for Olympic sports will be published this winter.
