Germany’s top domestic football league, the Bundesliga, kicks off the 2022/23 season on Friday 5 August when Eintracht Frankfurt – winners of the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League title – take on defending champions Bayern Munich. Bayern have indeed won 10 consecutive Bundesliga titles, which are commemorated with a special badge on the chest of their kits this season.

FC Augsburg unveiled all three of their new home kits on Tuesday 28 June and then wore the home kits in a pre-season friendly against TSV Schwaben Augsburg. The club’s crest and colors are similar to this Augsburg Coat of Arms.


2022-23 is Bayer Leverkusen’s first season with kit supplier Castore. The sound waves that form the tonal hoops on their home jerseys are inspired by the fan chant “LEVERKUSEN ALLEZ”.


The Bayern Munich 2021-22 away shirt was black with gold accents and the Munich Kindl, a symbol from the coat of arms of the city, printed on the back collar. The Muncher Kindl return with the 2022-23 away kit, again in gold on the back collar but this time on a white shirt. The Bundesliga patches on the sleeves of Bayern’s kits this year feature a special logo commemorating the club’s 10 consecutive league titles, and a special shield is also placed on the center chest of the shirts.


Borussia Dortmund retains its familiar black and yellow home color scheme for 2022-23, but this time with black vertical stripes on the front of a yellow kit, which is made by Puma. The black stripes contain a tonal pattern inspired by the windows of the Wildschütz restaurant, where 18 men met to found the club in 1909. The gray pattern on the black away kit symbolizes the flags raised by the fans at their home stadium.


Borussia Mönchengladbach were the only Bundesliga side not to release an away kit as of Wednesday 3 August. but The foals had released a black third kit which they had worn a couple of times in friendlies and DFB-Pokal preliminary rounds. The third kit features a tonal camouflage print all over.


Eintracht Frankfurt’s third shirt features several areas at the bottom with different black stripe patterns. These are samples from various Eintracht kits over the decades; the latest is from 2018-19.


Hertha Berlin’s third kit is reminiscent of the away kit the club wore in 1997 when they won promotion back to the Bundesliga. They did that with a 2-1 win over Unterhachting.


This is 1. FC Köln’s first season with kit supplier Hummel. All Cologne kits are selected by the club’s kit committee. All three 2022-23 kits carry the club motto “LIVE as you are” (“Live as you are”) printed on the inside of the collar.


The Mainz 05 third kit has the same tonal geometric pattern as their home and away shirts, but also includes a map of the city of Mainz. The city’s neighborhoods are outlined tonally on the front of the shirt.


For their 2022-23 home kit, RB Leipzig’s website states: “The kit maintains the classic RB Leipzig look: a white base color refined with gray and red elements that are real eye-catchers. For this unique look, our brand identity – the Red Bull – was reinterpreted in a futuristic way and integrated into the shirt in a tailor-made design as a red and gray pattern.”


SC Freiburg released all three of their Nike kits for 2022-23 in late June. The pattern on the white third kit is similar to that used on FC Augsburg away kit, while the pattern on the black away kit is similar to that used on Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion away kit.


The Schalke 04 away shirt features the design cues of the second division club 1. FC Nürnberg away shirt, only in blue instead of burgundy. This is to underscore the friendship between the two clubs and their fan bases.


The TSG 1899 Hoffenheim away shirt is based on a shirt worn by the club in the 1990s when it was still an amateur team. The lines on the home shirt symbolize the hilly landscape of the region of south-west Germany where the club is based.


The Union Berlin away kit debuted in June in a pre-season friendly against FC Viktoria 1899 Berlin. It’s mostly black, with small vertical lines of red and gray on the front.


The front of the VfB Stuttgart home shirt contains a tonal pattern with 24 different Stuttgart landmarks, including the Wilhelma Zoo, the Markthalle, the Stiftskirche and the Solitude Palace. The away shirt is directly inspired by the club, with red and black hoops and a white polo collar 1997-99 Away Shirt.


It is VfL Bochum’s first season with outfitter Mizuno. The tonal geometric pattern on the front of the home shirt features the floodlight masts and crescent-shaped concrete grandstands of the Vonovia Ruhrstadion.


The VfL Wolfsburg home shirt comes in the club’s signature neon green hue, with an all-over tonal pattern representing “the pattern of a prototype from main sponsor Volkswagen” and dark blue accents on the cuffs and back collar. The away kit is a very dark anthracite gray with neon green and navy trim on the sleeve cuffs and collar.


Werder Bremen are back in the Bundesliga for 2022-23 with a home kit that is difficult to describe. It consists of an abstract diamond pattern with halftone gradients that fade from green to white. The peach away shirt is an example of them “doing our thing, which means being bold and innovative,” according to the club.
