Cinema removes sign warning parents about same-sex kissing in ‘Lightyear’ amid backlash

After public backlash, an Oklahoma movie theater reversed course this week over a controversial decision.

The 89’er Theater in Kingfisher, Oklahoma put up a sign last week celebrating the premiere of Pixar’s latest film. light year.

The film garnered public attention after a same-sex kiss was removed and added back to the film amid a standoff between The Walt Disney Company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Attention Parents: After booking Lightyear, the management of this theater discovered that there was a same-sex kissing scene within the first 30 minutes of the Pixar film.

We’ll do everything we can to fast forward through this scene, but it may not be accurate.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this late discovery of this scene.

The owner told ABC KOCO News 5 that the theater removed the sign and never fast-forwarded through the same-sex kiss light year.

Chris Evans, light years star, expressed frustration that the kiss between two women was controversial, saying it should be “the norm.”

Evans later called homophobic critics light year “idiots” who will “die off like dinosaurs.”

Cinemas in 14 countries in the Middle East and East Asia have refused to show the film because Disney has denied requests to censor the same-sex kiss.
