STILLWATER, Okla. —- Oklahoma State women’s golf will once again face the toughest competition in the country in 2022-23, spearheaded by a season-opening trip to the esteemed Pebble Beach Golf Links, head coach Gregory Robertson announced Thursday.
Last season, OSU advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season after a remarkable regular season that included four tournament wins and an unbeaten fall roster. The Cowgirls also finished in the top 3 of every regular season tournament, a feat not matched by Oklahoma State since 1973-74.
Outstanding and Rising Junior, Maddison Hinson Tolchard will return to the Cowgirl roster after an outstanding second campaign in which she was named Big 12 Golfer of the Year 2021-22 and was named Second Team All-America. Rina Tatematsuwho represented OSU at Augusta National last season also returns to the program along with an exciting core of returnees and talented newcomers.
The Cowgirls begin their season at the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, Calif., scheduled for September 2-4. Pebble Beach Golf Links is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the world as it runs right along the coast and offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean.
A few weeks later, Oklahoma State will travel to Norman, Oklahoma to compete in the Schooner Fall Classic, taking place September 24-26. The Cowgirls walked away with the tournament title last season, winning by 20 shots to earn the program’s third win at the event.
After competing at the Illini Women’s Invitational in Medinah, Illinois on October 10th and 11th, the Cowgirls will attempt their second consecutive title on October 23rd and 24th at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas to win the Jim West Challenge. At last year’s event, OSU shot as a team 39-under to break both the course and tournament records.
The Nexus Collegiate Invitational in New Providence, Bahamas opens the spring portion of the season on February 13-15. The event marks the cowgirls’ first tournament outside of the United States since they traveled to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico in February 2020 to compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Oklahoma State will then return to Humble, Texas for the third consecutive year to compete in the ICON Invitational on February 27th and 28th. OSU will also play the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia (March 11-12) and the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, SC (March 24-26).
OSU will wrap up the regular season with a visit to Scottsdale, Arizona for the Big 12 Match Play, scheduled to take place April 7-9. The Cowgirls are 7-4 in matchplay since Robertson took over as head coach in 2019.
To kick off the postseason, the Cowgirls will head to Dallas, Texas April 21-23 in search of Big 12 Championship No. 11 and the 25th conference title in program history. Last year, Lianna Bailey blasted a 215 (+2) to clear the field in a single shot and take home the singles title.
The NCAA Regionals will be played May 8-10 at various locations. The Cowgirls finished the tournament in a tie for third place to earn another birth of the NCAA Championships at last season’s NCAA Stillwater Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club. Hinson-Tolchard won the singles championship, defeating the field in two shots with rounds of 72-71-69(-4)212.
The 2023 NCAA Championships will be held again May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Oklahoma State has made 23 trips to the NCAA championships and will be looking to make it to 24 next season.
