IMSA has released the 2023 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule, which includes 11 events and confirms the elimination of Mid-Ohio and Detroit from the calendar.
The schedule, announced during Friday’s State of the Sport address at Road America, features six events with all five classes in action.
In addition to the four rounds of the Michelin Endurance Cup at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, the Road America race and the recently confirmed Indianapolis Motor Speedway event will feature GTP, LMP2, LMP3, GTD Pro and GTD vehicles in action.
Notably absent is Detroit, which will instead serve as the round of the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class on its return to downtown streets with the NTT IndyCar Series.
It is understood that planning around the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which has the Le Mans test day on the same weekend of June 2-3, has been considered.
Several events also saw date changes, including Laguna Seca taking over the former Mid-Ohio slot, and the two rounds at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock Park being pushed back a week.
The Motul Petit Le Mans at the end of the season takes place two weeks later than this year.
Of note, IMSA has not yet announced the series, which will enter the NASCAR Cup Series on the streets of Chicago on July 1st.
It is understood that the CTMP event was rescheduled so as not to directly collide with the Chicago event.
