F1 odds, tables, schedule, championship futures prices

We are seven races in the 2022 Formula 1 season, with (potentially) three drivers fighting for the world title.

Max Verstappen, the 2021 World Champion and leading Red Bull Racing driver, currently leads the Drivers’ Championship race with 125 points. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is just nine points behind with 116, while Sergio Perez (110 points) has been back in the hunt after his win in Monaco.

After Perez there is a significant drop in the current standings. Mercedes newcomer George Russell is one point clear of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz on 84 points. Rounding out the top six is seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who has only collected 50 points in seven grands prix.

Betting Analysis for the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship

I’ll start with that – the value is gone for both Verstappen and Leclerc.

While I think either of these two drivers will eventually win the World Championship, I have no plans to give Verstappen a prize or take a heavily discounted prize with Leclerc, who opened the season at nearly +700 to win the Drivers’ Championship.

If you asked me to bet on either of these two drivers today, I would take the plus money with Leclerc. There are a couple of upcoming races – Azerbaijan, France, Belgium and Singapore come to mind – that will give a Ferrari car that corners quicker an advantage over Red Bull. If all goes well for Leclerc in these races, he could reclaim the lead enough that you could bet on both Verstappen and Leclerc in plus-money to guarantee a win.

Elsewhere, I’m interested in Sergio Perez’s price but I don’t think there’s any harm in waiting a few weeks. Although he won at Monaco a few weeks ago, I wonder if that was Red Bull’s way of balancing team orders in favor of Verstappen at Barcelona. Time will tell if that was the case.

Also, they will never say it out loud, but Red Bull want Verstappen to win the Drivers’ Championship if possible. That being said, Perez has proved remarkably consistent to date – after a retirement in Bahrain he has finished 4-2-2-4-2-1 in his last six Grands Prix. He will need more wins if he wants to fight for the world title but I believe there is an implied odds advantage with Perez and under the right circumstances he would play at +1500 or better.

As for the longshots, I don’t see anything worth betting on today, but there is one rider worth chasing over the next few races.

That’s Lando Norris, who has proven remarkably volatile so far this season. He made it onto the podium at Imola and finished in the points in five of his last six races. However, he still has to seriously challenge Verstappen and Leclerc to a race win. That could change over the next few weeks at both Silverstone (Norris’ home Grand Prix) and Monza, where the McLaren driver finished second last season.

If Norris can win a race anytime soon, he could be worth considering from a long-term perspective. But until then, he’s not worth your money.
