Alvin Kamara’s possible suspension has ‘no timetable’ for the decision
According to USA Today’s Ross Jackson, there is no timeline for when the New Orleans Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara could face NFL disciplines due to his arrest in February and the indictments resulting in significant bodily harm. (Source: USA Today)
Fantasy Impact: It’s not a foregone conclusion that Kamara will be suspended, but the belief in NFL circles is that Saints star RB will be suspended for about six games. Kamara has ended every season of his five-year career as RB1 on PPR formats and a ban of any length would jeopardize that series. Kamara will also play his 27-year season in 2022, an age that historically marks the start of a production decline for RBs. Kamara’s fantasy value is tied largely to his elite production in the passing game, and he will face greater competition for goals within the Saints offense with the return of WR Michael Thomas and the additions of WRs Jarvis Landry and WRs in the offseason than lately Chris Olav. All signs point to Kamara having a bad year compared to what fantasy managers have come to expect from the veteran RB. Kamara is currently rated RB11 in PPR formats according to FantasyPro’s ECR.

George Pickens is said to have a limited role as a rookie
According to The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, WR George Pickens is not “asked for much” for the Pittsburgh Steelers during his rookie campaign. (Source: Mark Kaboly, The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: The Steelers drafted Pickens from Georgia in the second round, adding a strength to a strength. The Steelers already have a strong, young receiving group in WR Diontae Johnson – who has improved in every statistic every year – as well as WR Chase Claypool and TE Pat Freiermuth. Rookie WR has only played 12 games in his last two collegiate seasons due to injury, but Pickens has been a full-fledged participant in OTAs so far. Even with a reduced role, Pickens could have heavy use of the red zone. In the past, the Steelers have primarily squeezed performance out of rookies in the end zone. Claypool had nine touchdowns as a rookie and former Steelers WR Martavis Bryant had eight in 2014. Pickens will likely start as the team’s WR3, but he could still see some relevant use.

Tyler Conklin stars in New York
As the New York Jets continue to build around QB Zach Wilson, TE Tyler Conklin appears to be “separating” from The Athletic as the tight end for the sophomore starter, according to Connor Hughes. (Source: Connor Hughes, The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: The Jets threw multiple darts at the dartboard in the 2022 NFL offseason, signing both Conklin and TE CJ Uzomah for deals and drafting rookie TE Jeremy Ruckert. But while the other two have missed time with injuries, according to Hughes, Conklin has built his relationship with Wilson. Last season in Minnesota, Conklin had career-best 593 yards, 61 catches and three touchdowns. According to FantasyPros, Conklin’s average draft position is TE33, nine points behind Uzomah. The tight New York space is open to anyone, but the Jets’ offense most likely won’t be strong enough to sustain a TE1. However, Wilson has been “looking” at Conklin in the red zone, which offers interesting advantages should he show up with the starting reel.

Trevor Lawrence demonstrates improved decision-making and a firm understanding of new crimes
According to ProFootballTalk.com’s Michael David Smith, Trevor Lawrence impresses quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy with how “he makes quicker decisions” as he feels more comfortable on offense with new head coach Doug Pederson. (Source: Michae David Smith, ProFootballTalk.com)
Fantasy Impact: Lawrence is reportedly developing a firm grasp of Pederson’s offense and coaches are pleased with how quickly he’s making progress. Lawrence’s 17 interceptions last season were the worst for the NFL with Matt Stafford. However, Stafford also threw 42 touchdowns as opposed to Lawrence’s 12 points, and the sophomore signal-caller needs to improve on both numbers this fall to live up to expectations associated with being the No. 1 overall pick. Otherwise, Jacksonville may need to start reevaluating the young quarterback.
