Brandon Aiyuk stands out at 49ers training camp
According to a report by ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, WR Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers has been making big plays in practice every day and appears poised to make a big leap in his third NFL season. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: Aiyuk appears to be starting camp on a positive note, which is an encouraging sign for young WR after earning his way into HC Kyle Shannahan’s kennel around this time last year and losing playing time earlier in the season. A 2020 first-round pick, Aiyuk has shown immense potential at various points in his first two seasons, but he has yet to maintain an elite level of production for a full season. With the 49ers switching to Trey Lance as the starting QB, Aiyuk could ultimately be the biggest beneficiary of all of the team’s passcatchers. Aiyuk spent the off-season training with Lance and it seems the chemistry they’ve built has carried over to training camp drills. Also, with Lance down center, the team should be making more downfield shots than with Jimmy Garoppolo up front, and Aiyuk is the most likely receiver on offense to hit those high-value targets. Aiyuk is currently rated WR38 in PPR formats according to ECR by FantasyPros.

Appealed Deshaun Watson’s six-game suspension by the NFL
The NFL is appealing Judge Sue L. Robinson’s decision in the Deshaun Watson Personal Conduct Policy matter. Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine who hears the appeal. Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson reports that the NFL is likely to seek a significant increase in punishment and could seek a season-long suspension. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This is news that Watson and Fantasy executives have been looking forward to since the original verdict was announced on Monday. Commissioner Roger Goodell ultimately has all the power here. He or an agent will issue a written decision and that decision will be final. The NFLPA and Watson have two days to respond in writing to the appeal, but early indications are that Watson could now miss the entire season. In the event of a season suspension, Jacoby Brissett is the favorite to start as quarterback for the Browns.

Marquise Brown arrested for criminal speeding
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was arrested earlier this morning for criminal speeding. (Source: Arizona Sports)
Fantasy Impact: Brown was traded from the Ravens to the Cardinals on draft night, and the hype surrounding his return to action with former college QB Kyler Murray has been widely discussed. With the Cardinals already missing DeAndre Hopkins for the first six weeks of the season (suspension), the last thing they need is another missed time from the receiver. Brown started training camp on the NFI roster but was recently removed. If he gets to the practice ground with the team sooner rather than later, that would bode well for someone joining a new offensive line. Assuming Brown is on the field in Week 1, he’s definitely a buy-low-sell-high contender as he’ll see a big spike in volume over the first six weeks of the season.

Diontae Johnson and Steelers remain ‘miles apart’ in contract talks
Diontae Johnson continues his “hold-in” at training camp, but the receiver and the Steelers are reportedly nowhere near the parameters of a new contract, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac. (Source: Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
Fantasy Impact: Johnson has participated in individual drills but has not attended any team meetings since training camp began. This is similar to what teammate TJ Watt did last year when negotiating his new contract with Pittsburgh, and Johnson hoped that “hold out” as opposed to “hold out” would make negotiations less contentious and easier, like Watt’s, but that doesn’t seem to be the case so far works for the Toledo product too. Johnson’s current contract expires at the end of this season and he could opt to try free agency in 2023 if the Steelers and he stay that far apart on compensation for a new contract before the start of the regular season next month. Johnson’s contract situation will need to be monitored as training camp progresses, but shouldn’t affect his fantasy numbers unless Pittsburgh decide to nitpick and release him off offense later in the year.
