Gerald Everett may represent “career season” at The Athletic
Los Angeles Chargers’ Gerald Everett “could be primed for a career season” in his freshman year with the team, according to Th Athletic’s Daniel Popper. (Source: The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: Everett replaces veteran Jared Cook, meaning Los Angeles will now have a more explosive YAC tight end option than in years past. Popper notes that the Chargers plan to include Everett with a variety of looks “from screens to flat stretches to jet sweeps.” The 27-year-old had a strong 2021 season with Seattle, catching 48 passes for 478 yards and four touchdowns while finishing as a TE21. With a bigger role in store, Everett has a borderline top 12 tight end on his head.

Gerald Everett 2022 fantasy football prospect
Gerald Everett has been solid over stretches of the 2021 season, particularly after Russell Wilson returned from injury. The ex-Rams tight end ranked as a TE9 in fantasy points per game (PPR) in weeks 10-16 while completing a route with 74% dropbacks.
Everett has proven he can be a top tight end for the Chargers coming off a career year. He set career highs in receiving (48) and receiving yards (478) and wreaked havoc with the ball in his hands, forcing 11 missed tackles after the catch — the sixth most common among tight ends.
His peripheral metrics on the Seattle offense — 12% target share, 63% route participation, and 17% target rate per route run — were almost identical to Jared Cook’s on offense for the Chargers last season.
Cook finished as TE16 overall, which seems like Everett’s fantasy floor heading into 2022. The tackle-breaking tight end finished the 2021 season just 0.4 points per game below Cook’s average (8.3 vs. 7.9) despite playing on an offense that ended in last place in passing attempts per game (1/29–14). ).
LA ranked third in this category last season (39.6).
Breakout tight ends are generally athletic players who deserve above-average track involvement in high-profile offense. Everett fits next season’s star profile in this position.
