Jahan Dotson impressed at the commanders’ mini camp

ESPN’s John Keim reports that Washington Commanders rookie WR Jahan Dotson looked “hot” at minicamp and “was able to form a solid connection with QB Carson Wentz.” (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

Dotson, who was selected in the first round of the NFL draft in April, was considered by draft pundits to be one of the most pro-ready WR prospects who should be able to contribute early in his career. Dotson has been dubbed by draft experts as a skilled route runner with an impressive catch radius and strong hands. ESPN’s John Keim cited Dotson’s ability to attack and use leverage on defenders as a strength that has allowed him to separate from experienced CBs throughout the minicamp. Dotson should see the field early and often in 2022, but if teammate WR Terry McClaurin continues to await a new contract or if he is traded, Dotson could find himself in a position where he could be the team’s number one WR a beginner.

Jahan Doston 2022 fantasy football prospect

Terry McLaurin is in the middle of a contract dispute, Curtis Samuel is struggling to stay healthy and 2021 third-rounder Dyami Brown couldn’t fire as a rookie.

Jahan Dotson’s greatest strengths for me are his reliability and the ground he can provide for commanders and that will translate into a target volume.

He did so during his senior season at Penn State, posting an absurd 43% dominator rating while picking up the eighth-most receptions in his draft class.

Jahan Dotson should start immediately in two wide receiver sets opposite Terry McLaurin. Dotson’s 90th percentile college dominator and 95th percentile goal percentage while at Penn State illuminate the caliber of the player he is. The Commanders’ pass rate could limit Dotson’s cap this year if the coaching staff come to the same conclusion as the Colts. That Carson Wentz is nothing more than a glorified game master at this point in his career. As unpredictable as Wentz is, Dotson should enjoy an upgrade over the college quarterback game he suffered. The only bright spot for Wentz is if Dotson can use his speed to loosen deep should Wentz be able to hit him in the crotch. Wentz was fourth in deep ball accuracy last season.
