That Guardians of the Galaxy have largely sat outside of the main MCU storyline, although their previous two films have had the honor of introducing Infinity Stone and the first heaven of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time around we can probably expect Gunn to continue that, with the main story being almost entirely standalone and other easter eggs simply there to tie the sub-franchise to the overarching story.
