Earlier this week, a photo of a document that appeared to be an official record of a school violence committee began circulating online. The title of the document indicated that it was a notice of punitive action to be taken against the perpetrator of the incident, whose name was Kim Garam.

On May 19, the legal representative of the alleged victim of the incident (hereinafter referred to as “A”) released a detailed statement, claiming that the document circulating was genuine and that Kim Garam was arrested in 2018 by the School Violence Committee had been found guilty.

The law firm also explained that while “A” was not among the people who originally posted the photos of Kim Garam online in April, she has been bullied online by Kim Garam’s friends and people she doesn’t know since HYBE her Photos had made a statement claiming that Kim Garam was a victim of bullying, which led to her committing suicide and dropping out of school. The law firm accused HYBE of subjecting the alleged victim to a second round of claims, claiming that while they tried to contact the agency on the matter, they received no response.

The law firm further urged HYBE to apologize and change their previous statement about Kim Garam as a victim, stating that “A” was not interested in money but wanted the truth properly exposed and her name cleared become. They also stated that if HYBE did not comply, they would disclose the full School Violence Committee records and the profanity-filled messages sent by Kim Garam to the alleged victim.

Later that day, HYBE responded with a statement, alleging that the law firm’s description of events was one-sided and that they would release a further statement after they completed examining the claims made.
