Manchester United have agreed to a swap deal with Juventus star Paulo Dybala | football | Sports

As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United remain linked with Juventus striker Paulo Dybala. The Argentina international has decided to leave the Serie A giants behind after seven years at the Old Lady. And if he does end up moving to Old Trafford, it will be three years after United have agreed to sign him on a swap deal.

Back in 2019, United were planning a brighter future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm.

After landing outside of the Champions League qualifying spots, the Red Devils were looking to make a splash.

And late in the window, they considered signing Dybala as part of a swap deal that would see Juventus take on Romelu Lukaku as part of the deal.

Lukaku had been deemed redundant by Solskjaer, who had replaced Jose Mourinho a few months earlier.

And Sky in Italy even went so far as to say that United and Juventus have ‘agreed’ a deal.

However, while that was the case, Juventus then tried to get Dybala to join the Red Devils.

And while the Nigeria international didn’t set the world on fire, he still scored a respectable five goals for his youth club.

Dybala later detailed his decision to turn down United and stay at Juventus, saying: “It hasn’t been an easy summer.

“It’s not nice to hear your name with every team and every place you don’t want to go.

“But this is football, even if I said before the transfer window opened: ‘I want to stay here’.

“I think it was more important to leave [my performances on] the pitch speaks, even if until the last day no one knew what was about to happen.

“I wanted to stay, I wanted to play here and continue my career at Juve. I think I can still give a lot and I showed that against Inter.

“I feel less weight on my shoulders and I’m very calm mentally. I was convinced that with Sarri I would start having fun, working and proving what I was worth.

“And that’s what I’m trying to do. saree and [Max] Allegri have different ways of playing, and you can tell.”

Now, however, United could be on the verge of landing their man.

Dybala is said to be a free agent and it has been claimed Erik ten Hag is keen to get the forward into the Premier League.

With Darwin Nunez looking to join a Champions League team, United may look elsewhere.

And Dybala would be a good alternative, even if he wasn’t always consistent during his time at Juventus.

What could bode well is that the striker previously played with Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin.

And there could be some appeal at the prospect of a reunion with the 37-year-old, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season.
