Nebraska Football rounded out its 2024 non-conference schedule with Northern Iowa.
FBSchedules.com first reported the addition to the schedule on Thursday, and The World-Herald later confirmed it.
The Scheduling Clearinghouse website reported Thursday it had received a copy of the single-game deal from UNI, in which NU will pay the Panthers $600,000 to play in Lincoln on September 14, 2024. The Huskers open their 2024 season with home contests against UTEP (Aug. 31) and Colorado (September 7) in the weeks leading up to the game in Northern Iowa.
The Huskers and Panthers, regulars in the FCS playoffs, have never played each other. Based in Cedar Falls, Iowa, UNI last played Nebraska in 1980, losing 8-32 at UNO.
Current NU head coach Scott Frost and defense coordinator Erik Chinander met and became friends while coaching at the school. Current Husker defensemen Chris Kolarevic and Omar Brown also recently played for UNI, a member of the FCS Missouri Valley Conference.
