N’Golo Kante drops big Chelsea transfer hint as Thomas Tuchel promise comes true

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has dropped the biggest hint yet that he won’t be following in Jorginho’s footsteps as he attempts to craft a Blues transfer exit this summer.

Kante, 31, has spent six years plying his trade in the Chelsea blues and winning almost every trophy available since completing his move from then-Premier League champions Leicester City in 2016. During his tenure, particularly in the last couple of seasons, various injury worries and issues have meant his respective managers – most recently Thomas Tuchel – have had to rely on his consistent services as they age and top player careers.

Nonetheless, his importance must never be underestimated, as evidenced by his impressive guest appearance in last weekend’s FA Cup final, where he really expressed the energy that had faded with Jorginho and an injured Mateo Kovacic. With Jorginho being linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus this summer, any transfer could leave Chelsea in something of a predicament. We already know how much investment is needed in defense as the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso face new challenges in La Liga next summer.

Coupled with that, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner could leave given recent Bayern Munich ties, meaning more than two departures in midfield could leave Todd Boehly and his consortium overloaded with things to do when his $4.25 billion -pound takeover is officially complete. A midfielder amid constant links with Aurelien Tchouameni and Declan Rice seems doable with all other priorities ticked first and coupled with that, Conor Gallagher’s return from loan at Crystal Palace next season will bolster that department too.

When the 31-year-old Premier League star drops the biggest hint yet that he will stay in 2022/23 despite having a year left to complete his contract after this season, it will be like music for the Chelsea manager Ears come Tuchel. He told Sky Sports in an interview ahead of Leicester: “The only thing that is certain is that I have one year left and the only thing that is is to finish this season. I will think about it in due course.”

This statement has confirmed Tuchel’s fears of losing his reliable players in the summer after Rudiger allegedly decided to join Real Madrid. “Nobody wants that anymore with big players and important players,” he said at a press conference in April. “It is a wish as a coach that we somehow solve this in the summer, that we solve it and it is clear where the journey is going and what the decision is. Yes, that is the wish.

“[If not] We have the same conversations we had about Toni and Andreas. You just switch names. We would talk about it all winter and then comes January and then the agents talk to that club and the brother to another. It would be nice if we could avoid it, but it’s difficult at the moment [because of the sanctions]. But that should be the goal for all of us.” With no new deal on the table and Kante currently on course to become a free agent by June 2023, we’re sure to hear his agent talk to Paris Saint-Germain, a well-known longtime player admirer, a lot more in the months to come of Les Bleus international.

But in the short term, with this new Kante admission regarding his immediate future, it seems a win-win for both Tuchel and Boehly, who now have one less thing to worry about.

Chelsea fans – do you think it’s the right time for the club to let N’Golo Kante go if a suitable offer were to come in and if so how much would you sell the Frenchman for? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
