Packers finalize 2022 training camp schedule with 12 public drills

July 27 was already well known to Green Bay Packers fans as a key date on the calendar for this summer. Now, following the Packers’ official announcement of their training schedule, fans can start planning trips to Lambeau Field for training camp.

The team released the schedule on Wednesday, revealing the dates of the 12 exercises that will be open to the public. All but one of these exercises are held outdoors at Ray Nitschke Field, with the exception of the annual Family Night exercises at Lambeau Field. Additionally, two joint practices with the New Orleans Saints will be open to the public and will be the last open practices of camp.

Head coach Matt LaFleur also announced last week that rookies are expected to report back a few days ahead of veterans this season, with July 22 being set as the report date for the first-year pros. The veterans will likely need to report around July 25 to give them a full day of buffer time and undergo an initial medical before the first practice on July 27.

Here are the dates of the open exercises. Note that as of the initial release of the schedule, only Family Night has a confirmed start time:

  • Wednesday July 27th
  • Thursday 28 July
  • Saturday July 30th
  • Monday, August 1st
  • Tuesday, August 2nd
  • Thursday, August 4th
  • Friday, August 5 – Family Home Evening, 7:30pm CT
  • Sunday, August 7th
  • Monday, August 8th
  • Wednesday, 10.8
  • Tuesday, August 16 – Practice together with New Orleans Saints
  • Wednesday, August 17 – Joint practice with New Orleans Saints

As has been the norm in previous years, the team will close practice after the penultimate pre-season game and will hold closed practice the week before the exhibition finals. However, the switch from four to three pre-season games means there are fewer practices open to the public than before 2021, as that final arrives a week earlier than 2020 and earlier.

In fact, 12 open practice sessions are the lowest in recent memory for the Packers, down a notch from the 13 they held in 2021. This, of course, doesn’t count the 2020 pre-season when no public practices were held at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019 the team had 16 open practices after consecutive years with 14 open days in 2017 and 2018.

As a reminder, here are the Packers preseason game dates for 2022:

  • Friday, August 12: Packers @ 49ers, 7:30pm CT
  • Friday, August 19: Saints @ Packers, 7:00 p.m. CT
  • Thursday, August 25: Packers @ Chiefs, 7:00 p.m. CT
