Adidas has been mocked after designing a pair of loafers that look like football boots and cost £785.

The sportswear giant has teamed up with Italian fashion house Gucci to create the sleek boots, which some say look like cleated Adidas Copa Mundial soccer cleats.

The boots have been worn on-pitch by legendary players such as David Beckham, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane.

But while the boots themselves are iconic, customers aren’t so sure they’re paying for smart work shoes that pay tribute.

Designed for men, the loafers have a very low heel and feature the Adidas logo on the heel and sole.

But they have the Gucci branding in green and red on the top.

Shoppers were quick to ridicule the unlikely combination and that it’s not quite what customers are looking for.

One person on Twitter quipped, “When you have work at 9am and soccer practice at 5pm.”

Another said: “The £785 Adidas Gucci Loafer is truly the most wonderfully horrifying object mankind has ever created.

“It’s so delightfully free from the conventional confines of taste that a richer, drunker self would probably own a pair.

“And no, it’s not Photoshop.”

Another joked, “I mean its a bonus next month and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted.”

The newly released Adidas x Gucci men’s loafers are part of a collaboration between the two brands.

The product description states: “The collection sees both heritages encoded in a trio of lines in which Adidas and Gucci combine archival emblems.

“Creative Director Alessandro Michele draws inspiration from his memories of the 80’s and 90’s for a collection that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
