PLA Eastern Theater Command continues joint drills around Taiwan-Xinhua

NANJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) continued joint combat drills and training as scheduled on Saturday in the waters and airspace around the island of Taiwan.

The exercises took place in the waters and airspace off the north, south-west and east coasts of the island.

The command tested its land and sea target hitting capabilities with the support of an integrated military system.

The command’s navy engaged warships in offensive and defensive exercises, with surface-to-ship missile units engaged in stimulated attacks aimed at key maritime targets and naval aviation units engaged in combat training.

The command’s naval and air force units also worked together on reconnaissance and assault exercises.
