What is the Pokémon World Championship 2022?

The Pokémon World Championship, commonly referred to as Worlds in the Pokémon community, is where all the top players in the world come together to compete and it returns in 2022. Throughout the year, players compete in a structured tournament schedule for the card game. the video game Pokemon GO and Pokemon Unite in hopes of qualifying for Worlds.

Each year, Worlds takes place in a different major city that inspires its overall theme, right down to the exclusive merch. This time, Worlds is taking place at the ExCel London convention center in London and has a fitting theme.

When is the Pokémon World Championship 2022?

The event begins on August 18, 2022 and ends on August 21, 2022. Participants, both participants and spectators, can arrive on August 17 to collect their welcome pack and check-in. Here are some of the schedules to keep in mind:

  • Pokemon TCG – All Divisions starts around 9:45am on August 18th, followed by Day 2 players starting at 9:00am on August 19th. Top Cut begins August 20 at 9:00 a.m
  • Pokemon VCG – Day 1 starts on August 18th at 9:30 am and again on August 19th at 9:00 am. Top Cut begins August 20 at 9:00 a.m

Here’s how to watch the 2022 Pokémon World Cup

Players can follow the Pokémon World Championship 2022 by tuning in to one of six different Twitch channels. Each of the four games represented will have its own channel ensuring as much action as possible, and the main Pokemon channel will feature action from all four titles.

What games are played?

The World Cup includes five different matches:

  • Pokemon Sword and Shield
  • Pokemon TCG
  • Pokemon GO
  • Pokemon Unite
  • Pokemon Tekken DX

This will be the final hooray for Pokken Tournament and Sword and Shield. Pokken Tournament will be dropped from official competitions, while Sword and Shield will be replaced by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, coming in November.
