Simon Pegg gives his opinion on the possibility of Shaun of the Dead 2

Edgar Wright has previously said he has no desire to return to Shaun of The Dead and Simon Pegg has added his feelings on the matter.

Considered one of the best horror comedies of the past two decades, Shaun of the Dead was a self-contained film that came to a rather definite ending. Still, fans have been asking if there will be one for nearly 20 years Shaun of the Dead 2and now star Simon Pegg has addressed whether he thinks there’s a way for Shaun and his pal Ed to make a comeback.

There are plenty of movies that never get a sequel, and former writer-director Edgar Wright has said he has no real desire to return to Shaun and the Zombie Apocalypse. However, the film was both a critical and commercial success upon its release in 2004, grossing $30 million at the box office on a budget of $6 million and earning an approval rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. That usually means someone somewhere is thinking about how to make some extra money off the film, but along with Wright, it looks like Simon Pegg isn’t in it.

Pegg recently spoke to Soho House and the subject of a Shaun of the Dead Aftercare was briefly discussed. Very short considering Pegg definitely doesn’t see a possibility of actually doing a sequel given how the first film ended. Pegg said:

“It’s beyond me how it could be possible Shaun of the Dead 2 because most of the main characters are dead. One of them is a zombie in a shed…which would be boring.”

A Shaun of the Dead sequel could expand their world

Although it seems so Shaun of the Dead destined to remain one of those films that stand alone without the need for a sequel, there would have been plenty of opportunities for Wright to expand his world and take Shaun, his girlfriend Liz and Zombie-Ed on their own little adventure, where they might face some new challenges and situations. However, while Pegg and Wright have seemingly closed the door on one project, the two have discussed other potential projects to work on if given the chance. Pegg previously said ComicBook.com:

“Edgar and I just need to get our schedules in order so we can write together again. We talk about things, ideas have been thrown around and we circle something. “I’m really busy. It’s not like it used to be when we were just trying to be seen and we had so much time. Now things are a bit more complicated. But there’s room in my heart for all that stuff and I want to work for Edgar of course and Nick again because they’re my buddies and that means we can hang out more together.”

No sequels are on the horizon for fans of the Cornetto trilogy, but at least it looks like the trilogy could become a quartet at some point in the future. Now we just have to wait for Pegg to find time for it in his schedule.
