Manchester City USA Tour

Premier League champions Man City will play two games in the United States. The pre-season trip is Man City’s first since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first game will take place on July 20th at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas against League MX club Club America. It is the second time Man City have played in Houston, following a pre-season friendly in 2017 against rivals Manchester United as part of the International Champions Cup.

Surprisingly, Man City won’t play their second game at Yankee Stadium, home of sister club NYCFC. Instead of this…

Bayern Munich versus Manchester City at Lambeau Field

Man City’s second friendly of the pre-season will be played at the famous Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin against German giants Bayern Munich. It is the first time a football game has been played at the Green Bay Packers’ home stadium.

The game, played on July 23, is Bayern’s fifth preparatory trip to the United States since 2014 and their first trip to the United States since a 10-day trip in 2019 which saw the club play Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Arsenal.

The game pits Man City boss Pep Guardiola against his former club, whom he stayed with for three years before moving to the Premier League side.

Similar to Man City, the game will be the second part of Bayern’s “Back on the Road” tour, a nod to Bayern’s first pre-season tour since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It will be great to see the enthusiasm of the people out there,” said Bayern managing director Oliver Kahn in a club statement. “FC Bayern is ‘back on the road’ – always looking ahead and with the goal of making our fans happy.”

Bayern Munich versus DC United

Before the duel with Man City, FC Bayern Munich will first fly to the state capital to play against MLS club DC United on July 20.

The game marks the first meeting between the two clubs. It’s a step up for DC United, who hosted Real Betis in a pre-season friendly in 2019.

It is unclear whether star striker Robert Lewandowski will be part of this tour at FC Bayern Munich, as the Polish superstar is said to be on the way out of the club this summer.

Derby between Chelsea and Arsenal in Orlando

Two Premier League teams meet in Orlando, Florida as part of the FC series’ Clash of Nations tour.

Chelsea and Arsenal, two teams battling for Champions League spots in the Premier League this season, meet at Camping World Stadium on Saturday 23 July. They have met twice in the Premier League this season, with the away side winning in August (Arsenal 0, Chelsea 2) and April (Chelsea 2, Arsenal 4).

The two clubs will each play two extra games in the pre-season friendly series, with games on July 16 and 20.

Chelsea vs Charlotte FC, Club America

Chelsea’s full US preseason tour has only recently been confirmed, likely due to the much-discussed change of ownership.

Ahead of the Arsenal game, Chelsea will also take on Mexican club America in Las Vegas and then travel east to meet new MLS expansion club Charlotte FC in North Carolina.

Although the Blues’ sale is ongoing and complications have been reported, it is believed that the sale to Todd Boehly and his consortium of owners will eventually be completed, allowing the sanctions to be lifted and the Blues to fulfill their playing obligations.

“The club will join [the U.S. tour] under new ownership,” Chelsea said in the official press release. “The Blues will only travel once the sale of the club is complete and accordingly no longer subject to UK government sanctions.”

Arsenal vs Orlando City

The Gunners play MLS club Orlando City again in Orlando in the second Arsenal game of the pre-season tour, which takes place on July 20. The game will take place at Orlando City’s Exploria Stadium, adjacent to Camping World Stadium.

A kick-off time for the game has not yet been announced.

The game will be the first meeting between the clubs, with Orlando City SC not starting the game until 2015.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen our fans in the United States and we look forward to playing in front of them,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told the club’s website. “We’ll be playing some good teams who will provide strong opponents and the training and game day facilities in Orlando will provide a first class environment in which to prepare for next season.”

Everton vs Arsenal, Minnesota United

Everton are currently in a vicious relegation battle in the Premier League and are already scheduled for two pre-season friendlies in the United States.

The Toffees take on Arsenal at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md. on July 16 before traveling to Allianz Field in Minneapolis for a face-off against Minnesota United. The USMNT played a notoriously cold game against Honduras in World Cup qualifiers in Minneapolis last winter, but the weather should be much warmer in the summer months.

“In my short time at the club, I’ve learned that Everton are one of the most visited English clubs in the US,” said Everton manager Frank Lampard. “Having spent part of my playing career on the East Coast – and playing at M&T Bank Stadium myself in 2009 – I know how great the enthusiasm for soccer is in the United States and it continues to grow.”

Everton’s status in the Premier League is in serious question with two games remaining in the 2021-22 season.

Barcelona meets two MLS clubs

One of the biggest clubs in the world is coming to the United States this summer for two MLS friendlies on the east coast.

Barcelona are having a busy summer and will play their first friendly in Australia on May 25, just days after the end of the La Liga season. The Catalan giants will then have June off before heading to the United States for a few games and maybe more.

The Blaugrana meet Inter Miami on July 16 before heading north for a friendly against New York Red Bulls on July 30.

There’s also a third US test match, which isn’t confirmed yet but is rumored to be happening…

El Clasico in Las Vegas?

According to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, talks between Barcelona and Real Madrid are at an “advanced stage” to hold a summer friendly at Sin City’s brand new Allegiant Stadium. The game will reportedly take place sometime between the two MLS friendlies Barcelona have scheduled for July 16 and July 30.

The report says there is “general optimism” the deal will go through and a game between the two La Liga rivals will take place in July.

It would be the second time the two teams have met in a summer friendly in the United States, following the 2017 game at Hard Rock Stadium in which Barcelona won 3-2. The game would potentially be the second summer friendly involving a European club side to be played at Allegiant Stadium and will complement the game already planned between Chelsea and Club America.

Finally also Barcelona allegedly A fourth US friendly is rumored to be in the works, with a game against Juventus in Los Angeles apparently also on the agenda. Inter Milan were also rumored to be friendly opponents for the Blaugrana but no further word on that front has been leaked since the end of April and it seems that Barcelona’s summer schedule is already pretty packed.
