Tarleton Volleyball releases 2022 schedule and kicks off season with back-to-back home tournaments

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton Volleyball is preparing for its return to the court with the release of its full 2022 schedule.

The Texans face 28 teams in a 29-game regular season. Tarleton will compete within Wisdom Gym’s friendly confines 14 times, beginning in back-to-back home tournaments. The program will play 15 non-conference matches before transitioning to a 14-game round-robin schedule in the expanded Western Athletic Conference.

Tarleton begins its season on August 26-27 in Stephenville with the Texan Invitational. The Texans will host Farleigh Dickinson and Northwestern State on day one of the tournament before ending the two-day affair against Louisiana Monroe.

The Texans then travel to Lubbock to face off with Texas Tech on August 30th. Texas Tech will be the only Power Five opponent Tarleton will see in 2022. The schools met for the first time in the spring 2021 season at the Stephenville Volleyball Court, with Texas Tech claiming a 3-1 victory.

After the midweek game against the Red Raiders, the Texans return home for the Pam Littleton Classic, held September 2-3. The tournament field includes Tennessee State, Southeastern Louisiana and Prairie View A&M. Tarleton draws against Tennessee State and Southeastern Louisiana on September 2nd and closes the tournament against Prairie View A&M on September 3rd.

Tarleton will then leave his home state twice for his remaining non-conference tournaments.

The Texans travel first to the Sunshine State for the Jacksonville University Tournament Sept. 9-10 for a three-game sequence against hosts Dolphins, Florida Atlantic and Idaho.

A trip to Greeley, Colorado September 15-17 for the Northern Colorado Tournament welcomes Tarleton next. The Texans face hosts Northern Colorado on Thursday and face Santa Clara and Cal Poly on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The visit to Colorado marks the end of tournament play and catapults Tarleton into WAC action.

The Texans will host Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, UT-Arlington (UTA), Grand Canyon, California Baptist, Utah Valley and Seattle University as part of their September-October conference list.

Interspersed between the home pairings are road trips to Incarnate Word, Lamar, New Mexico State, Utah Tech, UTRGV, Sam Houston and Southern Utah.

Southern Utah, Incarnate Word and UTA will be attending the conference on July 1st.

Tarleton has also planned a house-and-house with former Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Commerce. The teams will first meet in Commerce on September 27 before the Lions return to the Cowboys’ capital on August 11. Texas A&M-Commerce is entering its first season at the NCAA Division I and Southland Conference level. Tarleton has a 23-21 all-time series advantage against Texas A&M-Commerce and is 14-5 at home against the Lions.

The Texans are now eligible to compete in all WAC postseason championships, as previously announced on June 10th. The WAC volleyball tournament takes place on November 17-19 at the UTRGV Edinburgh campus. The top eight teams advance to the WAC tournament. The winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

Every home game will be broadcast on ESPN+. All WAC home games are played on Thursdays at 6pm CT or Saturdays at 1pm CT.

The start times for both home tournaments will be announced at a later date.
