Reports of James Dolan potentially selling the New York Rangers and New York Knicks quickly began to spread after Boyar Value Group’s Jonathan Boyar appeared on CNBC’s Closing Bell Overtime this week.

While discussing Madison Square Garden Sports stock, he noted that there was an opportunity after the completion of the MSG Sphere in Vegas.

“We think it’s likely that after that James Dolan, who controls the company, will sell the teams.” said Boyar. “It is interesting that private equity has become very involved. It wouldn’t surprise us to thwart one or both teams if private equity got involved.”

New York Rangers are not for sale

This isn’t the first time speculation has surfaced about James Dolan and talk of him selling the teams. Rumors that he wanted to sell the Rangers date back years and had to be disproved at the time.

Yesterday afternoon, we spoke to a reliable source who indicated there was “less than zero chance” that Dolan would transfer Rangers.

Later that evening, an MSG executive reached out to Forever Blueshirts and other websites and commented on the story. “We have no plans to sell any of the teams,” was the clear message.

As expected, all articles about the potential sale have been updated to reflect these comments.

Junior World Championship schedule

The quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday while the World Junior Championships continue in Edmonton.

Team Canada and its trio of New York Rangers take on Switzerland. They are considered the overwhelming favorites after going undefeated in round robin play.

Team Finland meets Germany in a favorable matchup.

With Brett Berard for Team USA and possibly Jaroslav Chmelar of Team Czechia, two other Rangers prospects are likely to go head-to-head tomorrow. The latter missed the last game through injury after Brennan Othmann’s skate came up and caught Chmelar who hit him from behind. The Czech winger may have escaped IIHF discipline at that game, but the cut on his face could keep him out of this competition.

Adam Sykora and Team Slovakia didn’t qualify for the playoff game. Austria was sent home early.
