Utah Volleyball Announces 2022 Schedule

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah volleyball program announced its 2022 schedule, highlighted by competing against five Sweet 16 rosters from last season and its season-opening home tournament to get the action rolling. The Utes will make 14 appearances on the Pac-12 networks during the fall season, taking on a total of 10 tournament teams from last year.

“Our schedule for 2022 is no different than in the past,” said the head coach Beth Launiere, entering her 33rd season at the helm of the program. “We have a strong preseason schedule along with the always tough Pac-12 volleyball roster. Our fans will be able to see great volleyball at the Huntsman Center this fall, highlighted by games against Kansas and BYU, as well as games against local teams in Utah Valley and Utah State.”

Utah Volleyball will kick off the season with its annual home tournament — the Utah Classic — when Loyola Marymount will play alongside the 2021 NCAA tournament teams in Kansas and Utah Valley. Utah meets Loyola Marymount and Kansas fresh off a Sweet 16 run and finishing No. 19 from a year ago at the Huntsman Center on Friday, August 26. The Utah Classic for the Utes concludes Saturday, August 27 against Utah Valley.

Non-conference play continues with a trip to Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in Purdue’s home tournament with UW-Milwaukee and Bradley alongside the Utes and Boilermakers. Utah will play UW-Milwaukee and Purdue on Friday, September 2nd while taking on Bradley the following day. Purdue finished the 2021 campaign ranked 6th in the latest AVCA poll, advancing to the Elite 8.

The Utes will participate in one final preseason tournament before returning home when they travel to the home game in San Diego on Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10. Utah opens Friday’s tournament against SMU, followed by games against UCONN and San Diego on Saturday.

Beginning with a game against their BYU state rival, the Utes will play eight of their next ten games within the friendly confines of the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah and BYU open the home stretch on Thursday, September 15, while non-conference action concludes on Friday, September 16 with Utah’s third domestic opponent on the Utah state schedule.

Three of the first four conference weekends for Utah will be played in Salt Lake City, beginning with games against Colorado (September 22) and Arizona (September 24). Utah briefly heads to competitions at UCLA (September 30) and USC (October 2) before returning home for the next two weeks. Utah will first welcome California (Oct. 7) and Stanford (Oct. 9), while Washington (Oct. 14) and Washington State (Oct. 16) will come to town the following weekend.

Utah then begins to alternate home and road competition when it travels to Oregon and Oregon State on Friday, October 21 and Sunday, October 23, respectively. The second half of the conference schedule begins at the Huntsman Center with USC and UCLA arriving on Friday, October 28 and Sunday, October 30, respectively.

The Utes travel to the Bay Area for games in Stanford (Nov. 4) and California (Nov. 6) and then look forward to the final games of the home season against Oregon State and Oregon. The Utes and Beavers play Thursday, November 10, while Seniors Day against the Ducks is scheduled for Sunday, November 13. To wrap up the regular season, Utah plays Washington State (Nov. 18), Washington (1st 20), Arizona State (Nov. 23) and Colorado (Nov. 25).

The 2022 NCAA tournament begins on the first weekend of December, with rounds one and two of the tournament taking place at the homes of the top 16 seeds from Friday, December 2 through Sunday, December 4. The NCAA regional rounds will be played December 9-11, while the Final Four will be held December 16-18.

Utah Volleyball brings back eight letterwinners from last year’s NCAA tournament team that advanced to the second round of the tournament. The Utes finished the 2021 season with a 22-9 overall record and went 14-6 in the Pac-12 game. In doing so, they set a program record for single-season Pac-12 wins en route to the program’s third consecutive third-place finish at conference. Madelyn Robinsonan AVCA All-Region and All-Pac-12 honoree last year, returns to the Utes for a fifth year while the team adds significant talent in its freshman class with four and three aspiring sophomore transfers.
