Sarah Callister Sellers, an Ogden native, placed second in Monday’s Boston Marathon. The former Weber State University athlete was cited as having the best finish among Utah runners in the race.

Four years ago, Sarah Callister Sellers, an Ogden native, Ogden High School graduate and former Weber State distance runner, stunned the racing world by finishing second in the Boston Marathon, her second marathon (the first was Huntsville, which qualified her for Boston ).

Sellers finished the 2018 Boston Marathon through a rainstorm in 2:44:04.

She then finished 11th at the 2020 Olympic Trials. Not long after, the pandemic began, and according to the Arizona Daily Star, Sellers learned she was pregnant. In January 2021, she gave birth to her first child.

Now she’s back on the pavement and has set a new personal record. Sellers, also an anesthetist in Tucson, Arizona, finished second in the Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, running 2:25:43 e.g per Weber State trackwho again qualifies for the next Olympic Trials by breaking her PR by six minutes.

The recent Weber State University graduate, Billie Hatch, finished 40th in the Minnesota Marathon, running 2:43:43.

VOLLEYBALL RELEASES SCHEDULE

Weber State Volleyball released its 2022 non-conference schedule on Thursday.

The Wildcats will host their purple and white scrimmage with a banner and ring ceremony for the team’s 2021 Big Sky Championship on August 19 and will host Air Force in an exhibition the next day.

The Wildcats open the regular season by hosting UC-Riverside, Southern Utah and San Jose State at Swenson Gym August 26-27.

Weber State makes its first move to a tournament hosted by 2021 NIVC Tournament Champion UNLV. Weber State plays UNLV, St. John’s and Miami on back-to-back days September 1-3.

Next, WSU plays a tournament in California September 8-10 and meets UC-Irvine, Gonzaga and Cal State Fullerton.

WSU then finishes non-conference play by traveling to Utah Valley on September 15 and hosting Utah State on September 17.

Big Sky Conference play begins September 22nd in Portland State, followed by WSU hosting Northern Arizona on September 24th.

NEW HOOPS STRENGTH TRAINER

Weber State has hired Justin Irwin to be its strength and performance coach for men’s and women’s basketball, Irwin announced on Instagram.

Irwin most recently worked at Division II Tusculum University in Tennessee for two years – one as a basketball performance coach, one as the director of strength and conditioning coaching for all programs. He also has strength and conditioning experience in Florida and North Texas.

He replaces John Bloom, who left for a similar job at Texas Tech.

McEWEN TO SWEDEN

After a stint with the Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canada Elite Basketball League and NBA workouts with the Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors, the former Weber State men’s basketball guard is headed overseas.

McEwen has signed with the Norrkoping Dolphins in Sweden, the team announced on Thursday. Norrk√∂ping plays in the Basketballligan, the country’s highest professional league.
