Western Michigan Football Wins Overall and Betting Odds

Western Michigan had a season of ups and downs last year that included an away win over Pittsburgh and a bowl win over Nevada. However, they lost four games in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and finished the season with an 8–5 record. This year, her total win number on FanDuel Sportsbook is 6.5 and the over is priced at +145 while the under is priced at -170. A $100 bet on the over returns $145 in winnings if they hit 7 or more wins, while a $170 bet on the under returns $100 if they win 6 or fewer contests.

Our experts predict the Broncos can win seven or more games in 2022, and we explain why.

Western Michigan Football 2022 Schedule

Western Michigan got off to a flying start to the 2021 season, and after a 14-47 opening loss to the Michigan Wolverines, WMU won four straight games. The Broncos won’t have an easy start in 2022 and their regular season schedule is below:

  • September 2 – in the state of Michigan
  • September 10 – at Ball State
  • September 17 – against Pittsburgh
  • September 24 – in the state of San Jose
  • October 1 – vs. New Hampshire
  • October 8th – vs. Eastern Michigan
  • October 15 – vs. Ohio
  • October 22 – in Miami, Ohio
  • 2 Nov – at the Bowling Green
  • November 9th – against Northern Illinois
  • November 16 – Central Michigan
  • November 25 – against Toledo

We touched on this in our Michigan State preview, but there’s a strong possibility that West Michigan will fall to the Spartans in Week 1 and host Pittsburgh in Week 3 after upsetting the Panthers 44-41 last season to have. Halfway through their schedule, they’ll likely pick up steam, and our experts broke down how western Michigan will rack up seven wins in 2022.

Western Michigan Football Total Winnings Over/Under Prediction: Over 6.5 Regular Season Wins (+145 on FanDuel Sportsbook)

Head coach Tim Lester is entering his sixth season at Western Michigan after taking on PJ Fleck and leading the Broncos to a 13-1 record in 2015. Replacing Fleck was not easy, but Lester has led WMU to five successful seasons. and last season was her best. The 2021 squad ranked 2nd in overall offense and 1st in overall defense in the MAC, but somehow lost four games in conference play. The hardest part for Lester and his staff will be replacing QB Kaleb Eleby, who threw for 3,277 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Finding a replacement for Eleby won’t be easy, but Jake Salopek (2021 backup) will likely lead the offense, although Mareyohn Hrabowski or Stone Hollenbach (transfer from Alabama) will be fighting for the starting spot. Another major blow to their passing game is WR Skyy Moore’s departure to the NFL, but WR Corey Crooms should be ready for a breakout season after surging for 44 catches for 768 yards and six touchdowns in 2021. Also, the RB duo of Sean Tyler and La’Darius Jefferson will be back in full force after rushing for nearly 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

The defense was one of the best in the country last year when it made the QB, and even though LB Ali Fayad is now in the NFL, the Broncos’ linebacker unit is still loaded. Their top three tacklers, Corvin Moment, Zaire Barnes and Ryan Selig will all return and their runners-up are likely to improve as CB Dorian Jackson will be back and Anthony Romphf will slip into the corner as No. 2 (purdue transfer).

The Broncos will likely start the year 1-2 before taking on San Jose State in Week 4 in what will be a tough matchup that we predict will end in a Broncos victory. After that, the schedule clears up ahead of a street contest in Miami, Ohio that will likely end in defeat for Western Michigan. They would then go 5-3 into their final four MAC contests and be able to defeat Bowling Green on the road and earn a win in one of their home contests against Northern Illinois or Toledo.

As such, we expect Western Michigan to post over 6.5 wins in the 2022 regular season.
