After both teams won their crucial 7 games in the first round, the Hurricanes and the Rangers will meet in the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Carolina took care of business against Boston, defeating the Bruins in game 3-2 to win the series. Tony DeAngelo and Jaccob Slavin led the team with eight points each. The team averaged low scoring throughout the series, with four players scoring at least three goals and eight players scoring at least two. All this against the backdrop of a sensational performance from Antti Raanta at the net, playing with Frederik Andersen, who is still out with a lower body injury.
On the other hand, Artemi Panarin’s overtime winner in Game 7 capped the Rangers series comeback. New York lost 3-1 to Pittsburgh but fought back in Games 5, 6 and 7 to claim three wins and advance. Mike Zibanejad had 11 points in the series, with Adam Fox contributing 10. Chris Kreider finished with five goals in seven games.
The Rangers are seen as the underdogs going into the series given how much the Penguins have outplayed them for most of the series, but the Hurricanes have yet to prove they can win on the road.
