The 18th edition of the 2022 World Athletics Championships starts on July 15th in the United States of America. The 10-day sporting event will host over 2000 elite athletes from around the world. After the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the process by more than a year, the sporting spectacle will now be held in the states of Eugene and Oregon.

The Indian Athletics Federation has announced a 22-strong contingent to take part in the World Athletics Championships. Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra will be India’s flag bearer at the mega event. The nation’s hopes of ending the gold drought at the Worlds will weigh on Chopra’s shoulders. He will face stiff competition from reigning World Champion Anderson Peterson and Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch.

Murali Sreeshankar is another medal contender for India in the championship. The long jump prodigy is ready to compete in his first major event since the Tokyo Olympics. He is currently ranked 13th in the world and has had consistent performances in the recent past. He recently broke the national record with a magnificent jump of 8.36 m.
